Materials:

1 sharp knife

1 slow cooker

1 immersion blender

 

Ingredients:

5.5 lbs apples, cored and chopped

1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

1 vanilla bean (or substitute 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract)

 

Instructions:

  1. Core and chop apples and place them in the basin of a slow cooker
  2. Mix together spices and sugars. Sprinkle these over apples and toss to combine
  3. Cook apple mixture on low heat for 10 hours
  4. Purée apples using immersion blender
  5. Remove lid and cook for another 2 hours, uncovered
  6. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container where it will keep about 2 weeks
